Janus was ten. Or at least she was close enough to be ten that she had taken to rounding up.
She looked back over her shoulder to the small farmhouse that held her entire family - her mother, her pet yarmouse and Old Abby, the droid.
She had finished her chores for the day and was just enjoying the last few minutes of peaceful sunshine before heading back home.

At first, when the dark figure stumbled through the brush at the end of the meadow, Janus found herself going rigid with fear. The thing seemed to lurch and sway as it stomped towards her and then... it collapsed to the ground.
For a moment, fear and curiosity waged a small battle in her mind before she decided to creep slowly over to the thing and see if she could tell what it was.

"Why it's only a man! But where's his other arm?"

Hours later the man would open his eyes and find himself in a cot, the stump of his arm compentently bandaged. Old Abby was a medical droid, first brought on to care for Janus's sick mother, but was more than capable of dealing with a severed limb.
Janus peered into the man's face, her close-cropped sandy hair and freckles reflected in his eyes.
"Shhhhhhh, mister. Don't be loud, my mom is sick." She jerked her thumb over her shoulder to indicate a sealed-off bedroom. "And don't you move too much. Abby says you lost a lot of blood and stuff."
The droid looked upon them both benignly.

Sib heard echoes and saw flashes of light and brief images, but never made any sense of it. Indeed, he had lost enough blood to donate to many people at once. He did however, look up at the small girl as his head swayed from left to right. He would then crash back into darkness for a while before opening his eyes up again to find he had been asleep for a few days.

On one particularly bright day, Sib opened his eyes and sat up. He breathed heavily and looked around. It wasn't a large house and didn't have much to it. They seemed like a simple family with few needs. Sib looked down at his stump of an arm and grabed it. He gritted his teeth in anger and hatred as the memory of Alexis came to mind. He tried to swing his legs over the cot, but shook his head as the blood started to circulate again.

After a few minutes, he stood up and leaned against a door frame. He looked down in a chair at his robe and things. His lightsaber was gone, which made him feel a little uneasy, but he didn't care at this point. After some effort, he managed to get his clothes back on and walk out into the main room where the main family was eating. He stood in place as they all looked at him.

Of the family, all that was left in those days were Janus, the droid and Janus's mother. The mother, her body ravaged by the disease, required special feeding from tubes and could not leave her bed.
Janus and Old Abby the droid had seen to the feeding and medicating earlier and were now enjoying a light, if slightly stilted, conversation.
When Sib entered the room they were shocked. Surely it was dangerous for a man who had recently suffered so much trauma to be shuffling about.
Old Abby got to her chromed feet. "Sir, would you like to sit down?" She gestured to a comfortable though old looking chair.

Janus said, "You're awake! Are you a sapce pirate?!"

Sib took a look at the chair and brushed it aside, "I'm fine." He said a little tired. He walked over to the table and looked down at some food. He had obviously not eaten in some time since the food look wonderful. "I am not a space pirate. I was a Jedi." He looked at the little girl with his scared face and nodded slightly, "Thank you for taking me in. I am Sib Belin, who are you?"
